The talk reviews some recent developments in the theory of quantum mechanical tunneling. The new phenomena discussed arise from the coupling of the tunneling system to a heat bath of temperature T. The question is how dissipation and thermal fluctuation affect the tunneling rate. Quantum tunneling proves to be very sensitive to these environmental influences. The results are not only important for the analysis of tunneling experiments in macroscopic systems but also provide a crucial test of various approaches put forward in the theory of quantum stochastic processes.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 1 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
