Robust control has addressed the issue of model uncertainty in control systems mainly through worst-case analysis. While this has led to significant new insight and tools, the emphasis on the worst-case has avoided a probabilistic understanding of robust control. In this essay we suggest that tools for structural reliability analysis can be adapted for this purpose.
