Fast shape from shading

Authors: Richard Szeliski;

Fast shape from shading

Abstract

Summary: The paper uses a new algorithm, hierarchical basis conjugate gradient descent, to provide a faster solution to the shape from shading problem. This approach is similar to the multigrid techniques that have previously been used to speed convergence, but it does not require heuristic approximations to the true irradiance equation. The paper compares the accuracy and the convergence rates of the new techniques to previous algorithms.

Keywords

convergence, hierarchical basis conjugate gradient descent, true irradiance equation, Computing methodologies for image processing, computer vision
