Neptunium-Aluminum Intermetallic Compounds

Abstract

The intermetallic compounds NpAI2, NpAI3, and NpAI4 have been prepared, and examined by X-ray diffraction methods. The compounds are isostructural with the corresponding U-AI compounds. NpAI2 is face-centered cubic with a = 7.785A and has the MgCu2 structure. NpAI3 is simple cubic with a = 4.262A and has the AuCu3 structure. NpAI4 is body-centered orthorhombic with a = 4.42A, b = 6.26A, and c = 13.71A. The published description for the atomic positions in UAI4 applies also to NpAI4.
