Análisis del impacto presupuestario de vareniclina (Champix®) en el tratamiento del tabaquismo en España

Abstract

Objetivos: El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el impacto presupuestario de la financiacion de los tratamientos farmacologicos para ayudar a dejar de fumar por parte del Sistema Nacional de Salud en Espana. Metodos: Se adapto un modelo de Markov para analizar las repercusiones sobre el presupuesto farmaceutico de distintas intervenciones para dejar de fumar. Las probabilidades del modelo fueron tomadas de la literatura y de ensayos clinicos controlados, y se utilizaron para estimar la efectividad de las opciones incluidas (vareniclina, bupropion, terapia de sustitucion nicotinica y ausencia de tratamiento farmacologico). El analisis se realizo desde la perspectiva del Sistema Nacional de Salud, considerando solo costes farmacologicos, y descontando los costes con una tasa del 3% anual. Resultados: Los resultados del analisis muestran que el coste farmacologico total de la eventual financiacion de los tratamientos farmacologicos del tabaquismo en Espana seria de 16,0 millones de euros en el ano 2008, y 31,3, 48,5, y 67,1 millones de euros para el periodo 2009–2011, lo que supondria entre un 0,2% y un 0,5% del gasto total farmaceutico. Conclusiones: Las terapias farmacologicas para el cese del tabaquismo son una opcion eficiente y su inclusion en la financiacion publica del sistema nacional de salud supondria un coste limitado y asumible en nuestro pais.
