Applications of Rapid Solidification

Abstract

The attributes of rapid solidification have been sufficiently developed for both crystalline and amorphous materials that commercial products are now available. The constitutional and microstructural advantages to be gained using rapid solidification have been used to develop improved structural alloys form crystalline materials and enhanced mechanical, chemical, electrical and magnetic properties in amorphous alloys. Some predictions are made on which segments of the array of rapidly solidified materials will prove to be of significant commercial value in the future.
