Straining annealed Nitinol (TiNi) wire changes the characteristics of its subsequent phase transformation. It generates peaks in electrical resistance and an additional peak in the calorimetry curve. This work explores the relationship between the stress associated with this strain and the peaks formed during transformation. Straining the wire in the martensitic vs. austenitic condition can produce differences in the subsequent phase transformation. This phenomenon can be exploited for higher temperature transformations in one-time applications.
