Postoperative Plombeninfektionen stellen seltene, aber das Sehvermogen massiv bedrohende okulare Infektionen dar. Die am haufigsten als Verursacher isolierten Keime sind koagulase negative Staphylokokken und Staphylococcus aureus. Meist manifestieren sich die Infektionen innerhalb der ersten Monate postoperativ und sind — trotz intensiver lokaler und auch systemischer antibiotischer Therapie — persistierend. In der Regel kann erst nach Plombenexplantation eine Heilung erreicht werden.
