Abstract

» Om vakinhoudelijk leiderschap vorm te geven kan gebruikgemaakt worden van de sleutelelementen van transformationeel leiderschap. De essentie van transformationeel leiderschap is het bereiken van organisatieverandering door het benadrukken en creeren van nieuwe waarden en een gezamenlijke toekomstvisie. Transformationeel leiderschap wordt afgezet tegenover transactioneel leiderschap dat zich kenmerkt door het stellen van duidelijke doelstellingen en belonen en correctief handelen. Daarnaast wordt het afgezet tegen ‘laissez faire’-leiderschap dat zich kenmerkt door afwachtend gedrag en het niet op zich nemen van de verantwoordelijkheid en een gebrek aan visie. In een systematic review van Wong en Cummings1) komt een positieve relatie naar voren tussen transformationeel verpleegkundig leiderschap en verbeterde patientuitkomsten, zoals een verhoogde patienttevredenheid en minder negatieve bijwerkingen (‘adverse events’) en complicaties.
