Abstract

L’optique metaxiale se presente d’abord comme un prolongement de l’optique paraxiale classique, en etudiant le transfert lumineux opere par un systeme pour une position desormais quelconquede l’ecran; cela dans une approximation d’ordre superieur, ou les surfaces de transfert sont representees par leurs spheresosculatrices. Elle s’oppose par contre a l’axiomatique geometrique en utilisant le seul mecanisme de la diffractionpour decrire le transfert de la lumiere, sous la forme d’operateurs spatiotemporels agissant sur un champelectromagnetique aleatoire essentiellement polychromatique et, simultanement, sur ses proprietes statistiques, en premier lieu sur sa coherencs.L’effet d’un changement de milieu conserve d’abord au transfert general l’aspect essentiel de la diffraction en milieu homogene, represente par la trilogie :transformation de Fourier, filtrage spatial et transparence de courbure, intervenant successivement. Sa specificite est d’implanter en outre, dans le milieu aval, une image coherente de l’objet, laquelle se comporte comme une source secondaire pour tout ecran place dans ce milieu. Un systeme centre non diaphragme reflete les memes proprietes : imagerie coherente et aplanetique sur une sphereimage, trilogie structurale pour un ecran quelconque. Ces differents aspects, ainsi que leurs implications dans la dualite champcoherence, sont etudies en detail dans le cadre general d’un objet partiellement coherent et precises pour le cas particulier d’incoherence spatiale. Enfin, il est important de noter que la doctrine metaxiale conserve integralement sa validite pour tout systeme electromagnetique, en particulier radio electrique et meme pour des systemes acoustiques.
