In order to estimate variability, durations, and multiple occurrences of rainfalls at rates of over 150 mm/h, a mathematical expression is fitted to excessive shortduration rainfall data for the United States. Geographical distributions of average durations and depths of intense rainfall are found to be surprisingly uniform. Prediction of expected rainfall versus return period and calculated risk is considered, as well as variability of time distributions.
