An attempt has been made to evaluate the effects of heparin upon dye clearance liver function tests. A total of 82 bilirubin and bromsulfalein liver function tests without or with administration of heparin were performed on 31 dogs. Variable results were observed with both dyes, on dogs with and without anesthesia. Repeated control dye clearance tests without heparin showed considerable variability in the same animal.
