Abstract

Die erstmals von J.Barrande erwahnte „forme elliptique“ ist — entgegen bisheriger Ansicht — eine bei primitiven Ammonoideen durchaus nicht seltene Erscheinung. Es handelt sich bei ihr keineswegs um ein vereinzeltes atavistisches bzw. teratologisches Phanomen, sondern um abklingendes, von ortho-conen Ammonoideen-Vorfahren ubernommenes Erbe. Insofern ist sie durchaus von phylogenetischer Bedeutung.
