Mating disruption obtained by the release of pityolure at 1 or 3.6 g/ha from rubber and cardboard dispensers, largely prevented oviposition by the moths of the pine processionary caterpillar (Thaumetopoea wilkinsoni Tarns). However, as the prolonged flight period of the moths necessitates repeated pheromone application, it is doubtful whether mating disruption can replace conventional control methods.
