1. Rupture is an uncommon complication, but if a multipara, especially one with a weak point in her uterus, should develop abdominal signs and symptoms and/or constitutional disturbance, either in pregnancy, in labour or in the postpartum period, and which are not capable of other ready explanation, then rupture should be seriously considered. Indeed, in a few cases which, in the pre-sulpha and penicillin days, were brought to my notice, the first indication of rupture had been the onset of puerperal sepsis, an unsuspected laceration having been discovered later at autopsy.
