Abstract

The advantages and limitations of pulmonary function tests are described. A short description of the methods of investigation of the processes involved in respiration is given, viz., the investigation of ventilation, diffusion, pulmonary capillary perfusion and the mechanics of breathing. It is emphasised that these tests are not substitutes for the normal clinical and radiological examination of the patient.
