After a general discussion on the influence of space charge upon the potential distribution between parallel electrodes, the case of coaxial cylindrical electrodes is investigated. The resultant current-voltage characteristics are calculated and it is shown that the obtained curves are similar to those of the well-known case of plane electrodes. The theory may be useful for the development of cylindrical tetrodes and pentodes, especially for transmitting valves.
