The commercial cultivars of mango have originated predominantly in India through seedling selections of the variants due to recombination and segregation of characters in the progenies. It has been found that suitable environment can help in wider diversity in the seedling progenies with much improved types as in Florida, where the Haden and other cultivars have bigger-sized fruits with more attractive colour than the parent Mulgoa with dull colour. The predominance of nucellar lines in Malaysia and the Philippines is possibly a result of genotype environment reaction. The nature of inheritance of this character should be studied more in detail.
