A simplified model for heat transfer is cold rolling which considers only convection parallel to the roll-strip interface and conduction normal to this direction is developed. The interface temperatures predicted by the model show good agreement with experimental measurements by Jeswiet and Rice [10]. The influence of various processing parameters on interface temperatures is discussed and a semi-empirical equation to estimate the maximum interface temperature is presented.
