Abstract

Moniliasis is quite a common problem in nurseries, maternal vaginitis being so frequent it is the most important source of infection for the newborn. It was revealed that cultural methods may be considered superior to smear, for the diagnosis ofCandida. There was no marked difference in the incidence of parasitization of babies between the two sexes. Higher incidence of parasitization was found in premature as compared to the full-term infants. The vaginal mode of delivery was seen to predispose the newborn to infections.
