The incidence of birth injury was recorded as 4.52 per cent in a total of 2650 live births. Cephalhaematoma, intracranial injury and soft tissue injury were of common occurrence. They were more common with first born babies and with breech and face presentation. Intracranial haemorrhage was the most common cause of death. Immediate prognosis was favourable if the infant survived the first five days of life.
