The two-photon spectrum of 2H- and 4H-PbI2 was measured at low temperatures in the exciton region. Most of the 2H-crystals show clearly resolved structure which is interpreted as transitions to 2P- and 3P-excitons and phonon sidebands. The temperature dependence of the spectrum supports the assignment. The data are analysed by means of the formalism for anisotropic excitons of Gerlach and Pollmann.
