Abstract

The role of chemical analysis in setting and enforcing environmental regulations is reviewed. The general procedure developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for evaluation of the ambient air quality reference methods is reviewed, and the results of collaborative tests to determine their reliability are summarized. The role of Standard Reference Materials for quality assurance of environmental measurements is discussed.
