Flexographic printing is increasing in importance. Although a lower cost process, its print quality is now challenging those achieved by gravure printing and lithographic printing. Three of the major driving forces behind the constant improvement of the flexographic print quality are the technologies associated with the printing plate creation, ink formulation and the anilox delivery systems. In this paper, developments in printing plate processing are reviewed. Printing plate processes mainly concern the relevant progress that has been made, in recent years, to the plate type, the plate composition and plate processing.
