The effect of rapid temperature cycling on the minimum creep rate of Udimet 500 super-alloy was investigated. It was found that an abrupt temperature decrease during creep is followed by a delay period of zero creep rate. Due to this delay period the creep rate under thermal cycling conditions is lower than the creep rate calculated from the steady state creep rate at constant temperature.
