Measurements of the variation of interlamellar spacing with composition are presented for the Sn-Pb and Al-CuAl2 eutectics. The interlamellar spacing in both systems was only slightly dependent on composition. This is contrary to the previous findings of Jordan and Hunt who found a marked variation of λ2υ with composition in the Al-CuAl2 system. Possible reasons for this discrepancy are discussed. The present results may be explained approximately but not exactly by the “extremum growth“ criterion of the Hunt and Jackson theory.
