In this paper we briefly review the observed parameters of the presently known millisecond pulsars and the general ideas about their formation secenario. We describe the results of recent searche and unbiased surveys, and we discuss some possible observation strategies. We also show that a uniform large scale survey with the Italian «Northern Cross» radiotelescope may have an important role in our understanding of this population.
