From the formulas given above we can calculate the pressure of a loose filling on parallel sloping boundary walls, and the bending moments in the critical cross sections of protective structures, for rigid attachment of the ends of the span. The formulas given are general and apply to practical calculations for any angle of inclination of the parallel walls. It is necessary to be cautious when simplifying the calculation of the bending moments by assuming uniform load distribution, because there is only a narrow range of conditions in which this assumption is valid, occurring when l/m is comparatively great.
