The paper describes a method for the absolute evaluation of the luminance of a photographic image of the fundus, based on a comparison between this image and a referred grey scale. The absolute measurements of the luminance of the particular on the film are performed by a microprocessor-controlled microfilm reader. This new method can be applied in general studies regarding the fundus of the eye in particular for studying retinal diseases caused by hypertension and diabetes.
