When the load of a reinforced concrete beam is increased or when a constant load is active over a long period, changes in the shape of the diagram in the compressed and tensioned areas of the beam cross section can be observed. The paper analyses the nature of those changes and proposes a practical method for their calculation. The values of the analytical calculations are compared with the experimental results.
