Numerous articles on the topic of neurologic, cardiac, and burn complications following electrical injury have appeared in the literature since 1934 [1]. Specific mention of dysphagia as a complication of survivors of this type of injury was not found on literature review. For this reason our case is of particular interest. This patient presented with a primary deficit of severe dysphagia following medical stabilization after lightning strike. A structured series of diagnostic and treatment programs was implemented, which included serial modified barium swallows (or “cookie” swallows [2]), thermal stimulation, oral motor exercises, and laryngeal adduction tasks. The patient improved over 1 month from a nonoral intake status to a regular diet while habitually using a learned swallowing technique.
