1. In inlet transitions of submerged outlet conduits with nonseparating flow, local pressure reductions occur, and this can cause cavitation on and cavitational erosion of the transition surface. 2. There are countless numbers of nonseparating and noncavitating inlet transitions of elliptical profile. It is recommended that, for the preliminary selection of such profiles, use should be made of the graphs presented in Figs. 2 and 3. 3. The investigational results obtained can be used for improving and supplementing existing design standards [5] for inlet transitions of submerged outlet conduits and spillways of hydropower schemes. 4. The investigations of inlet transitions of sub merged outlet conduits should be continued with a view toward developing recommendations for the design of nonseparating and noncavitating three-dimensional transitions of circular and rectangular cross section.
