A general method is described for the separation of compound classes present in the mixtures of saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons. The method is utilizing low and medium pressure elution liquid-solid chromatography (LSC) on alumina or silica and is applicable to a large number of petroleum and condensate distillates, as well as to synthetic hydrocarbon mixtures. A high-sensitivity capacitance detector has been used in the work reported.
