Tidal residual circulation produced by a tidal vortex

Abstract

L'eau s'ecoulant a travers une entree etroite (canal) de baie, sous l'effet de la maree, presente la forme d'un panache associe a une paire de tourbillons en tete. La formation sous l'effet de la maree, etant periodique, on appelle ces tourbillons «paire de tourbillon de maree». On montre qu'ils generent une circulation residuelle de maree dans le systeme bassin-canal. Modele analytique et etude experimentale (hydraulique). Trois types de tourbillons sont consideres, types determines par le nombre de Strouhal et le rapport d'aspect de la forme horizontale du canal d'entree. Le type I est celui du tourbillon qui se dirige vers l'interieur de la baie; il lui correspond une intense circulation residuelle. Le type II est le tourbillon qui sort dans le canal a la faveur du jusant mais qui revient dans la baie avec le flot; la circulation residuelle est faible. Le type III correspond au tourbillon qui forme, cote baie, sort en mer et ne revient pas, ou bien forme cote mer, entre la baie pour y rester; la circulation residuelle presente alors un sens de rotation inverse de celui du premier cas
