A sunshine monitor and its calibration is described. Its important characteristics are: it has an electrical DC level output which is high (> 4.5 V) for “sunshine” and low (< 0.4 V) for “no sunshine”; it is calibrated for a threshold sensitivity of 200 W/m2, which meets the sunshine definition of the World Meteorological Organization; it requires very little service and contains no moving parts.
