If a laboratory has to deal regularly with large numbers of samples which have to be analyzed by the headspace method, this task can be taken over by commercial, fully automated instruments (such as the Perkin-Elmer Model F 40). The situation is different if such analyses occur only occasionally. In that case an automatic instrument is not utilized fully and is thus uneconomical, a suitable manual accessory is not available commercially. The author has therefore tried to develop such an accessory.
