The transmission by the tickRhipicephalus appendiculatus ofTheileria lawrencei (Serengeti) from buffalo to cattle, and thence between cattle, is described. Buffalo were shown to act as carriers ofT. lawrencei (Serengeti) piroplasms infective for ticks for up to 26 months. Tick transmission ofT. lawrencei (Serengeti) from buffalo to cattle was efficient, but its transmission between cattle was less so.
