Abstract

In conclusion, it can fairly be claimed that surgery based on a permanent ileostomy is a satisfactory form of treatment for ulcerative colitis and that patients are restored to health and full activity thereby. But this can only be achieved, not by any special skill, but by painstaking care and attention to the ileostomy in its construction and after care.
