NachSpâth undPailer gibt es drei mogliche Strukturformeln (I–III) fur Emetin. Von diesen wurde (II) durch Ozonolyse des Hoffmannschen Degradationsproduktes (IV) ausgeschlossen. Auf der Grundlage von (I) wird eine neue Strukturformel des Cyanintyps fur die Rubremetiniumsalze vorgeschlagen (V). Diese erscheint dadurch gestutzt, das deren Reduktionsprodukt einen Pyrrolkern enthalt.
