Abstract

1. Die Mm. subcostales sind bei vielen Saugetieren vorhanden. 2. Nach der Lokalisation und dem Charakter der Verstarkung der Mm. subcostales konnen die untersuchten Tiere in folgende 4 Gruppen geteilt werden: 1. Tiere, bei denen die Sube, hauptsachlich im caudalen Teil des Thorax entwickelt sind und sich nach hinten zu verstarken: 2. Tiere mit verstarkten kranialen Subcostaliszacken; 3. Tiere, bei welchen die Subcostales sowohl im kranialen wie auch im caudalen Thoraxteil entwickelt sind, und bei welchen sie im mittleren Thoraxteil fehlen oder schwach entwickelt sind; 4. Tiere, bei denen die Sube, fehlen. 3. Der Entwicklungsgrad der hinteren Subcostaliszacken steht mit den Eigenschaften des Thorax der betreffenden Tierart in Zusammenhang: sie ist dem Beweglichkeitsgrad des Thorax proportionell und steht in umgekehrt proportionellem Verhaltnis zur Elastizitat des Thorax. 4. Die Mm. intere. int., Retr. costae ult., Costarii haben eine gleiche Herkunft; darauf weist eine Reihe von Ubergangen der einen zu den anderen hin, ferner ihre Lokalisation, ihre Verbindungen usw., und auch ihre Innervation. 5. Die Mm. subcostales der Saugetiere sind hochstwahrscheinlich den Mm. retrahentes costarum = Intere. int. dors. longi der Reptilien homolog.
