Note on the Kuroshio meander

Abstract

Surface current measurements with GEK during the period from 1960 to 1962 in the region south of Japan have been analyzed statistically. Characteristics of the meander for the west of 138‡E are found to be different from those for the east: the surface current speed is higher and the current path is more stable in the west of 138‡E.
