1. On the basis of the relationships of linear fracture mechanics cold resistance diagram were developed and obtained for a number of constructional steels in the form of the relationships of the transition temperature to the logarithm of crack length corresponding to reaching by the nominal failure stresses of the yield strength of the material in an infinite Griffiths plate. 2. It was proposed to use the cold resistance curves for calculations of the critical temperatures of specimens and parts, for determination of KIc by extrapolation without conducting labor-consuming tests, and for analysis of the influence of the geometry and dimensions of steel parts on their cold resistance. 3. With a sufficient degree of accuracy the diagrams obtained make it possible to predict the characteristics of brittle fracture resistance of steel specimens.
