The microbiological transformation of progesterone to androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione was investigated. A comparison of various species ofFusaria under identical conditions showed a characteristic difference in the course of the transformation which allowed the division of the androstadienedione producingFusaria into two groups. Beside of the already knownFusaria several new androstadienedione producing ones were discovered.
