Light microscopic studies of iridophore preparations from ap mutantXenopus larvae revealed abnormalities in the morphology and size distribution of reflecting platelets; purine synthesis is normal. A pleiotropic effect of the ap gene on melanoblasts and iridoblasts is proposed.
