Die Carotinoide der GarneleBetaeus harfordi bestehen zu uber 93% aus Astaxanthin und seinen Estern. Die tiefblaue ausserliche Farbe wird durch ein Chromoproteid mit unverestertem Astaxanthin gebildet.
