An Intensive Therapy Unit for the treatment and remotivation of chronic schizophrenic patients was established at Brooklyn State Hospital. The aim was to effect sufficient improvement to enable patients to function as useful members of society. The release of 183 patients (34.2 per cent) over a two-year period is a striking testament to the success of the program.
