The strain rate sensitivity of a rigid polyvinyl chloride has been investigated over a range of temperatures (−197 to 80 °C) and Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics has been applied to evaluate the results. Tests onCharpy type1) specimens provided with sharp notches were carried out at two widely different strain rates; in “static” conditions and in a “dynamic” situation. A special instrumentation of aCharpy impact hammer was developed to elucidate the records of transient loads.
