Si l’on ne porte pas son attention sur les processus physico-chimiques, la Rheologie constitue un chapitre de la mecanique des milieux continus; les relations contrainte-deformation qui peuvent etre du type viscoelastique lineaire ou non, elastoplastique, viscoplastique, etc. ... forment la pierre angulaire de cette discipline. Or, ces corps sont compressibles et laissent par consequent se propager des ondes acoustiques qui peuvent provenir d’une source aerienne aussi bien que d’un excitateur mecanique ou autre; d’ou l’interdependance de ces deux sciences Rheologie et Acoustique qui semblaient a premiere vue si independantes.
