In the course of quantitative immunoglobulin determinations by radial immunodiffusion systematical differences in the results have been observed. These differences possibly are due to an influence of merthiolate (sodium aethyl mercurithiosalicylat) which is added to the agar to avoid bacterial growth. We proved this possibility by experiments under the same conditions in agar with and without merthiolate. It appeared that merthiolate had a significant effect on the results of immunodiffusion at a concentration of 0.05%.
