Initial filling of a carryover reservoir

Abstract

1. The initial filling of the Toktogul reservoir was accomplished without observance of the design recommendations. 2. At present, in connection with the introduction of limitations in the Syr Darya WMS, regulation has been initiated by the basin water-resources management. This should have a favorable effect on the initial filling of the Toktogul reservoir. 3. For the successful passage of the period of initial filling of the reservoir it is necessary to adhere to the rules of using water resources with a set of programs for managing the reservoir under various water-management conditions and to ensure their fulfillment. 4. Under conditions of a shortage of water resources it is advisable to reduce the time of initial filling of the carryover reservoir by reducing the design yield only in relatively small, limited amounts.
